CYBER ADDICTION- A KIND OF DISORDER

She walks in beauty, like the night
of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!

                           - Lord Byron

Well, many of you have skipped the poem above. But just take a one more look towards it and you'll find it awesome,. Anyway it is about an unnamed woman with amazing beauty, compared with that of nights and stars.

I used to read this during my school days. Such awesome poems are not read by today's generation, or we can say " Cyber kids ". This article is not about nature or love but as mentioned in title "Internet Addiction".
"An addiction that cannot be cured with nicotine chewing gum."

In the present day study, out of every 1000 students, every 987 students are cyber addicted. And more precisely 681 females and 306 males. This is what our siblings, friends or colleagues are doing. Many researches and surveys have been done on this topic. Most of the teens born between 1998-2000 are cyber addicted compared to our older one.

This is one short story for you:

A boy called James, not Bond but his name was James. 10 year old, young boy got a toy called "Laptop". He started internet, Facebook, Instagram, and then slowly games. He used to play it once a day, then twice a day and then it started increasing. A day came when he got mastery over such games. Slowly and steadily he became one of the unbeatable gamer.

Days passed, weeks, months and then years. But there was a little change, his grades started falling down. And he slowly became an introvert. Always in front of a screen, talking to no one. He started staying alone, without friends and then soon he became weak in his communication skills.

After 9 years, he was 19. He entered in a college, a new life, a new place but he was the same. A boy excessively addicted to games. Now he has no knowledge of outside world, no friends, no love and this led him to a kind of disorder. He became more and more introvert.

This was the story, now let's see about few real statistics.
According to a research done by CNBC; Millions of citizen in US are addicted to internet. Not only US, but countries like China, India, Japan, Australia, Italy, Korea and Taiwan are officially recognized as addicted countries and that led to major health issues related to eyes, brain, spine and even many cases of "impotency"

  • Like alcohol and drugs, the internet provides a high, resulting in problematic overuse.
  • For the first time, a study on internet addiction — focusing specifically on online gaming — is being funded by The National Institutes of Health to determine the best form of treatment. It kicks off this week.
  • Conducted at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, the study may ultimately help to determine whether online gaming should be listed in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as a true mental health disorder.
  • The U.S. lags behind many other countries that already officially recognize tech addiction as a disorder, leading governments and health-care providers there to develop a series of major initiatives to curb the problem. Insurance coverage in the U.S. is largely to blame.

These details were published by CNBC on 29 August 2017.

That's why I posted a poem in the beginning. Friends, we are living in such a beauty world where we have many things to see, feel, touch and experience.

I am not against any professional gamer but my only intention behind this is keep my friends away from this new disaster.
So, friends don't be so reserved, just go out, take a walk, talk to strangers, fall in love,  gardens and beaches are made for finding ourselves and not Pokemon. So go outside these four walls instead of sitting in front of emotionless screen.

On The Nature Of Love

The night is black and the forest has no end;
a million people thread it in a million ways.

We have trysts to keep in the darkness, but where
or with whom - of that we are unaware.

But we have this faith - that a lifetime's bliss
will appear any minute, with a smile upon its lips.

Scents, touches, sounds, snatches of songs
brush us, pass us, give us delightful shocks.

Then peradventure there's a flash of lightning:
whomever I see that instant I fall in love with.

I call that person and cry: `This life is blest!
for your sake such miles have I traversed!'

All those others who came close and moved off
in the darkness - I don't know if they exist or not.

                                    - Rabindranath Tagore.
